What is it?:
Barrier islands on the west coast of Florida. Beautiful beaches with lots of shells. The kinds you want to collect.
GO – MUST GO destination. It’s gorgeous and shells are a-plenty.
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars
Pros: Beautiful beach with public access for a small parking fee. There are waves but they’re not overly aggressive. LOTS of beautiful shells.
Cons: Waves – again, not overly aggressive but there are still waves so it might be tough for littles.
PRO-TIP: Go at low tide to get the best shells. The further north you go, the better the shells. I’ve linked the map to the public access beach on Captiva where we found dozens and dozens of gorgeous shells. Skip Blind Pass — everyone says to go there and we didn’t find as much stuff there, plus it was smidge on the dirty side. Plus, since everyone talks about it, I can imagine it’s pretty busy during peak season.
